Nothing wrong with a little more country

While working out the kinks to this I realized there are going to be a few problems:
1. When I initially inherited these records I instantly had to alphabetize them. So what did I do? I mixed them up with other used records I bought from various flea markets and my favorite place to buy and talk music at: VILLAGE GREEN RECORDS in Muncie, IN. The problem? Some records that I pull won't be exactly true to "Frankie's favorites," meaning that sometimes I will pick records that are just too good to pass up to those in love/interested with music.

2. I am a very poor story teller, so things might be shaky until I find my own voice.

3. I'll be mostly picking sappy love/heartbreak songs for awhile. Deal with it.

NOW, onto record number 2!

-------------
Album: By the time I get to Phoenix
Artist: Marty Robbins
Year: 1968
Label Number: CL 2817
Side 1                                         Side 2
1. By the time I get to Phoenix  1. Love is in the Air
2. Am I that easy to forget         2. As time goes by
3. Love is Blue*                        3. That old feeling
4. Virginia                                 4. To be in love with her*
5. Until we meet again              5. You made me love you.
6. Yesterday

Now luckily enough, I have a more recent story to coincide with this record.

As I mentioned before I just recently acquired these records, but instead of taking them all at once, I took stacks of 30 to 40 each time. I didn't want to rip them away from Frank, these being some of the last physical memories of Frankie. Though he would act tough and say "yea take that shit out of here before I throw them away," his eyes would light up each time he saw a specific record.

He never went into much detail why each of these records he pulled meant so much, but you can tell by the crack of a wry smile or how his mouth would drop in a slight frown that memories, good and bad, would come flowing in.

Pretty amazing for a 76 year old man with a terrible memory.

While rifling through these records I had recognized a lot of the artists, being raised on country music and all. Frank would see a record and tell my why this specific artist was so good. My mom would be sitting on the floor with me singing her favorite songs from the records he spoke of with her nasally yet calming voice.

Marty Robbins was on the bottom of my list of artists I knew, but Frank knew him well.

This record though, Frank looked like he didn't want to part with. He grabbed the record and looked it over what seemed like thousands of times going between smiles and slight frowns.

"No one did it like him." "Nobody wrote a sad song like him."

It'd been years since I'd seen Frank go through such range of emotions.

That was a good day.

----------------
Just like the George Jones record, this vinyl pops, crackles, and skips. You can tell just how much this record had been played.

Marty Robbins just has a voice I haven't heard in a long time. It reminds me of my dad's when I was a kid, when he would joke around and sing the sad country tunes to make us kids laugh. Secretly, us kids cherished each moment he sang.

Robbins sings with such heartache that it's kind of hard to listen to. He's a definite crooner, but let's his country twang pop out every so often, making sure you knew it was a country record.

SIDE ONE: is dedicated to all slow sad songs, each more heart wrenching then the last. THEY ARE GETTING PROGRESSIVELY SAD.
Saddest moment: On the cut "Until we meet again," Marty sings with what sounds like his eyes filled with tears "this is goodbye." Even I teared up a little.
Side one also ends with a cover the Beatles "Yesterday," which I was pretty hyped for, but it's as bland as all the other covers of the song.

SIDE TWO: Boy, Marty doesn't stop on the sad songs. He makes sure you leave from listening to this record that you are emotionally spent. His voice gives a guarantee that everything will be alright, but man does it hurt right now.

Best Song: Love is Blue
Best Lyrics (all of them):
Blue, blue, my world is blue
Blue is my world since I'm without you
Grey, grey, my life is grey
Cold is my heart since you went away

Red, red, my eyes are red
Cryin for you alone in my bed
Green, green, my jealous heart
I doubted you and now we're apart

When we met how the bright sun shone
Then love died, now the rainbow is gone

Black, black, the nights I've known
Longing for you so lost and alone
Gone, gone, the love we knew
Blue is my world since I'm without you
